Kalona Maps Guide

Map knowledge separates players who react from players who predict. Gears of War: E-Day draws its competitive and PvE spaces from Kalona —the city where Emergence Day begins —with distinct layouts for Versus 4v4 and Horde Siege. At launch, Versus ships six maps: Outpost, Battleship, Park, Precinct, Market, and Skyward. Horde Siege launches with three maps, while the Open Beta exposes Horde on Golden Quarter only. This guide documents each arena’s role, how playlists use them, and where to study mode-specific tactics once you know the geography.

Pair this page with Versus modes for playlist rules, Versus beta tips for Market/Outpost habits, Golden Quarter for the beta Horde map, Versus 4v4 Tactics for spawn control, and Horde Siege for R.I.G. lanes. The multiplayer overview summarizes player counts and class roles if you are jumping between PvE and PvP.

Counts reflect The Coalition’s pre-release commitments. The August Open Beta limits Versus to Market and Outpost across two Versus modes —not the full six-map launch pool. Post-launch seasons on the seasons roadmap add arenas and Horde maps as free updates — The Coalition confirmed post-launch multiplayer maps are not paywalled. Track changes on Updates after October 6, 2026.

Versus map: Outpost

Outpost is an abandoned military camp with bunkers and shifting elevation — mid-sized control with strong central sightlines and flanking alleys suited to Conquest and Team Deathmatch. The middle power weapon spawn forces early fights; teams that lose mid control spend entire rounds fighting uphill retakes.

Callout habits: Label “mid,” “garage,” and “long” early in the match so rotations stay synchronized. Assault-style entries from Horde Siege translate well here —slide into mid, trade, fall back to team.

Best modes: Conquest for zone practice; TDM for aim warm-up.

Open Beta note: Outpost joins Market as the second Versus arena during August 6–10 and August 13–17 Open Beta windows.

Versus map: Battleship

Battleship fights across a long-lost war vessel — exposed decks, bridge crossings, and docks create a tighter, lane-heavy arena. Chokes favor Demolition plants and Gut Puncher-style denial even though Versus loadouts differ from campaign explosives.

Callout habits: “Top lane,” “water side,” and “plant site” must be distinct —overlapping callouts cause double-stacks that lose retakes.

Best modes: Demolition for round-based discipline; Crucible when rule variants emphasize close quarters.

Versus map: Park

Park is an abandoned coastal zoo in downtown Kalona centered on a bloodied fountain with winding pathways. Park mixes open sightlines with destructible cover clusters —ideal for testing micro-destruction habits from the movement guide. Vault paths around low walls catch players who only learned slide entries on flat maps.

Callout habits: Mark broken cover states (“mid wall down”) so teammates stop holding dead angles.

Best modes: TDM for movement cross-training; Conquest when zones sit in open areas.

Versus map: Precinct

Precinct takes place inside Kalona’s Police Department — tight interiors and breached walls for close-quarters fights. Precinct skews toward urban police-station fantasy with vertical peek opportunities and short rotation times. Ranked stacks favor coordinated 2— splits in Conquest because retakes arrive quickly from multiple spawns.

Callout habits: Use compass directions plus floor level (“east stairs,” “roof”) to avoid ambiguous “inside” pings.

Best modes: Conquest and Ranked TDM for high-level stack play.

Versus map: Market

Market is a once-thriving seaside market with long streets, elevated balconies, and dense interiors — the most diverse Versus beta arena. Market is a commerce-district layout with narrow stalls and intermittent long lanes. Sound matters: footsteps telegraph flanks between stalls before visual contact.

Callout habits: “Market mid,” “stall row,” and “back alley” give enough granularity for Demolition executes.

Best modes: Demolition and Social Crucible for chaotic close fights.

Open Beta note: Market is one of two Versus maps in the August test build alongside Outpost —see Open Beta schedule.

Versus map: Skyward

Skyward spans interconnected rooftops with narrow pathways and perilous jumps. Skyward emphasizes verticality —multi-level routes and drop-down flanks that punish anchors who never rotate. Power weapon control often sits on elevated positions, so losing high ground snowballs.

Callout habits: Always include height in pings (“ground,” “catwalk,” “upper”).

Best modes: Conquest when zones span floors; TDM for aim duels on vertical angles.

Horde Siege: Golden Quarter (Open Beta)

Golden Quarter is the dedicated Open Beta Horde Siege map, available during August 6–10 early access and August 13–17 general Open Beta if playlists remain active. Expect R.I.G. objectives (Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, Horde phases), Supply Cache Energy routes, Secondary Objectives, and Invasion Events featuring Corpser or Brumak.

Golden Quarter is the training ground for twelve-player, three-squad coordination:

  • Assign squads to quadrants before wave one.
  • Bank Weapon Parts only after Raven extraction —dying pre-extraction wastes your run.
  • Learn class kits (Assault Sonic Disruptor, Breacher Adrenaline Injector, Marksman Pulse Drone, Medic Stim Vaporizer) on lower difficulties before pushing Commander or Allfather tiers.

Full Horde mechanics are in the Horde Siege guide. Run the beta checklist before queuing Golden Quarter on August 6.

Horde Siege: three launch maps

Full release on October 6, 2026 includes three Horde Siege maps beyond beta exposure. The Coalition has not publicly finalized all names in pre-release materials; treat launch as three distinct layouts with shared systems —Blitz (15—0m), Siege (20—0m), and Horde (50—0m, ten waves) playlists —rather than one reskinned arena.

When names and screenshots publish closer to launch, this page will add callouts per map. Until then, transfer Golden Quarter habits: R.I.G. maintenance, Energy from Supply Caches, COG tag revives, and squad-level extraction timing.

Learning maps efficiently

  1. Social first —Walk spawns without Ranked pressure.
  2. One map per night —Depth beats breadth before launch week.
  3. Custom callout sheet —Write five labels per map; share with your four-stack.
  4. Cross-mode transfer —Campaign E-Hole discipline helps Horde Invasion Events, not Versus lanes.
  5. Patch notes —Geometry tweaks land in Updates; re-walk affected lanes after patches.
