Beta Weekend 2 Patch

The Coalition published an August 12, 2026 patch for the second Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta weekend. Those changes are live now during General Open Beta (August 13 at 12:00 PM PT through August 17 at 10:00 AM PT). This page is the wiki changelog: every official fix, the new SSD-only PC rule, the drone-snub port change from UDP 443 to UDP 3074, Prototype Lancer tuning, and where to go if a named error still appears.

Search “Gears Beta” on Xbox, the Xbox PC App, or Steam — no pre-order and no code. Calendar: Open Beta schedule. Install: How to install Open Beta. Named errors: beta error codes. Remaining reward grind: Open Beta rewards.

Why this patch exists

Early Access (August 6–10) produced a large public test: Horde Siege hit-registration complaints, Versus queue friction, Steam controller and account-link failures, drone-snub disconnects, and Xbox Series S hitching after long Horde sessions. The August 12 notes answer that weekend. Content is unchanged — still Golden Quarter Horde plus Market and Outpost Versus — but the client you launch after August 12 is not the same build that opened Early Access.

If you played week one, progress carries. Use the remaining hours before August 17 10:00 AM PT to finish Player Level 20 Mags and eight Infantry+ extracts rather than restarting class kits.

Official August 12 fixes

ChangeWhat it means in a match
Prototype LancerHigher base damage, lower perfect Active Reload bonus — more consistent mid-range, less “perfect or bust”
Horde hit detectionShorter delay between a shot connecting and damage applying in Horde Siege
StabilityFewer crashes on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC App, and Steam
Connection timeoutsMitigations for sessions that died during load or mid-objective
Versus matchmakingFurther Social and Ranked queue improvements
drone-snubMitigations plus required port UDP 3074 (was UDP 443)
Anti-cheatStronger protection and action against verified cheaters
Steam third-party padsControllers more likely to be seen at launch
Account linkingMicrosoft account link from the social pane more reliable
Xbox Series SExtra hitching reductions, especially after long Horde sessions

Aim-assist settings text is still incomplete in the beta build. The studio will add the explanation at launch. Practical rules live on Aim Assist Settings: default assist still applies in Versus; Snap Aim and Lock-On apply to Campaign and Horde Siege only.

PC: SSD required, HDD unsupported

Weekend 2 guidance is stricter than the first FAQ. Mechanical HDDs are not supported. Installing the beta on a spinning drive can cause missing assets, severe hitching, failed loads, and crashes. Move the client to an SSD before you file a ticket.

Driver floors are unchanged and still block launch if you are below them:

VendorMinimum
NVIDIAGeForce Game Ready 610.74 or newer
AMD26.7.1
Intel101.8864

Budget ~80 GB if both Horde and Versus packages sit on one drive (~39 GB each, ~62 GB combined on Xbox). Full launch still lists ~130 GB on Steam. Specs: PC system requirements. Graphics toggles (DLSS Super Resolution, Reflex on, frame gen off, 150 FPS cap): PC DLSS & Graphics.

drone-snub: open UDP 3074

If drone-snub survived week one, treat the port change as a router task, not a reinstall. The Coalition moved the documented requirement from UDP 443 to UDP 3074. Confirm that port is open, disable VPN for the session, and prefer wired Ethernet on Xbox. Xbox Live port documentation is the official reference if your ISP or carrier filter (for example AT&T ActiveArmor) still intercepts game traffic.

Clock-sync codes bryce-vigil and gill-gutpuncher, Quick Resume quentin-ephyra, and LowLevelFatalError still use the same workarounds on beta error codes. Do not ticket issues already on beta known issues.

How to play the patched weekend

  1. Update the Gears Beta client so August 12 notes apply — storefronts can leave you on the Early Access build if auto-update is off.
  2. On PC, confirm SSD install + current GPU drivers before the first queue.
  3. On Steam, connect the pad before launch if week one hid third-party controllers.
  4. Link Xbox from the social pane only if you need cross-platform squad invites — Steam solo play still does not require a Microsoft account. See cross-play.
  5. In Horde, trust the hit-detection pass: hold angles a beat longer before assuming a shot “whiffed.” Invasion bosses: Invasion Events.
  6. In Versus, the Lancer is a more honest mid-range tool after the base-damage buff. Gnasher slide habits still win close maps — Versus Beta Tips.

What did not change

Playlist size is the same: one Horde map, two Versus maps, two Versus modes, class level cap around 10, Player Level cap around 50, two Invasion bosses, all weapons. Challenge cosmetics still carry to the October 6 launch; class level, Player Level, and medal progress still reset. Progress still carries between the two August weekends on the same account.

Campaign, split-screen, and the full six Versus maps remain launch content. Premium and Collector October 1 early access is the full game, not this beta client.

After August 17

General Open Beta ends August 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM PT. Next public milestones are October 1 Premium/Collector early access and October 6 global launch plus Game Pass day one. Use the gap to read progression system and seasons roadmap for Season 1 Emergence.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers for Emergence Day prep and launch week.

When did the E-Day Weekend 2 beta patch go live?

The Coalition dated the notes August 12, 2026. They apply to General Open Beta, which runs August 13 at 12:00 PM PT through August 17 at 10:00 AM PT.

What changed on the Prototype Lancer?

Base damage increased and the perfect Active Reload damage bonus decreased, so mid-range fire is more consistent without relying on a perfect reload every magazine.

Can I install the Open Beta on a hard disk drive?

No. Weekend 2 guidance says mechanical HDDs are unsupported and can cause missing assets, stuttering, and crashes. Install on an SSD.

What port does drone-snub use after August 12?

The documented requirement moved from UDP 443 to UDP 3074. Open that port, disable VPN, and prefer wired Ethernet on Xbox if the code persists.

Did Weekend 2 add new maps or modes?

No. You still play Horde Siege on Golden Quarter and Versus on Market and Outpost. The patch is stability, networking, anti-cheat, and Lancer tuning.
