Gears of War: E-Day Weapon Mods & Customization
Weapon Parts, cross-class mod sharing, Armor and Tactical Gear upgrades — Horde Siege and campaign, not Versus.
Gears of War: E-Day introduces Weapon Mods — the first mainline Gears system that lets you spend Weapon Parts on attachments and handling tweaks for individual firearms. Mods appear in campaign, Horde Siege, and supported PvE activities. Versus 4v4 deliberately excludes weapon mods so fair-start loadouts stay identical. This guide explains how to earn Parts, bank them on Raven extraction, unlock mod slots through class progression, and prioritize upgrades before the General Open Beta August 13–17, 2026 and October 6 launch.
Pair this page with How to Extract for Raven banking rules, Siege Classes for class-level unlocks, Progression System for level-30 tracks, and Weapons Overview for base gun roles.
What Weapon Mods change
Weapon Mods adjust handling, accuracy, reload behavior, or utility on specific guns — not raw power creep in Versus. Official multiplayer deep dives show mod slots on assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and heavy weapons in the PvE HUD. Some mods are modest (+accuracy, faster swap); others reshape a weapon — for example a Gnasher bayonet mod or Lancer handling packages tied to the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack cosmetics.
Armor Mods and Tactical Gear Mods sit alongside weapon mods in Horde progression. Armor tunes survivability (health, ammo capacity, execution bonuses). Tactical Gear reduces cooldowns or adds effects to Sonic Disruptor, Pulse Drone, Adrenaline Injector, and Stim Vaporizer kits.
How to earn Weapon Parts
Weapon Parts drop from Secondary Objectives and successful mission outcomes in Horde Siege:
- Defuse explosives, eliminate high-value targets, collect intel, or deliver resources to another squad’s R.I.G.
- Claim COG Resupplies — Supply Drops, Perk Caches, and Weapon Part Stockpiles that attract Locust attention
- Finish main R.I.G. objectives with time to spare for optional lanes
Parts collected mid-run are lost unless you extract. Only a successful Raven extraction banks Parts for purchasing mods between missions. One player boarding the Raven counts the squad success — but wiping at the landing pad wastes everyone’s Parts from that run. Read How to Extract before grinding Crush the Bug cosmetics on Open Beta rewards.
Purchasing and equipping mods
Once class levels unlock mod tiers (full level 30 tracks at launch; beta caps near level 10), spend banked Weapon Parts in the armory or loadout menu between Horde missions. Mod purchases apply to the weapon, not the class portrait — customization is shared across classes. Mod a Prototype Lancer on Assault and those attachments remain if Marksman equips the same rifle later.
Suggested first purchases for Open Beta on Golden Quarter:
| Priority | Mod type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lancer stability or mag | Assault/Medic mid-range consistency |
| 2 | Longshot handling | Marksman Invasion Event DPS |
| 3 | Gnasher utility | Breacher room control |
| 4 | Tactical Gear cooldown | Medic Stim or Assault Disruptor uptime |
| 5 | Armor sustain | Fewer downs before Raven |
Active Reload and per-weapon perks
E-Day ties some Active Reload bonuses to individual weapons — perfect reloads may grant weapon-specific buffs shown in the HUD (accuracy dashes, fire-rate hints). Mods stack with those timing rewards; practice reticle-near reloads on Active Reload before buying expensive Parts packages you cannot use under pressure.
Campaign versus Horde Siege
Campaign missions grant Weapon Parts through story objectives and optional challenges similar to Horde secondaries. Campaign lets you experiment with Gut Puncher timed detonation and Incinerator area denial without squad coordination. Horde Siege adds multi-squad economy — Parts matter more because failed extractions punish three fireteams at once.
Versus players should still read this page to understand launch metagame: Horde-only mods will not appear in Ranked, but knowing PvE upgrades helps when friends swap modes.
Open Beta expectations (August 2026)
The August client includes all weapons but caps class level near 10, limiting how many mod tiers unlock. Treat beta as a systems tutorial:
- Complete one Secondary Objective per run to learn Part income.
- Extract at least once with Parts banked — feel the difference between wipe and success.
- Test one mod on Lancer and one on Longshot before General Open Beta queues spike August 13.
Progress carries between August 6–10 Early Access and August 13–17 General Open Beta on the same account, then class level and Player Level reset at October 6 launch. Challenge cosmetics still carry — see Open Beta schedule.
Mods Versus does not use
The Coalition confirmed no weapon mods in Versus 4v4. Everyone starts identical; power weapons spawn on map timers. If a datamined menu appears in Social playlists during beta, assume bug or placeholder until Updates confirms otherwise. PvP tuning lives on Versus 4v4 Tactics and Versus modes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers for Emergence Day prep and launch week.
Do Weapon Mods work in Versus 4v4?
No. Weapon mods are for campaign and Horde Siege PvE. Versus uses fair-start identical loadouts without player-applied weapon modifications.
How do I keep Weapon Parts after a Horde Siege run?
Parts only bank when your squad successfully extracts on the Raven. Dying or wiping at the landing zone loses Parts collected during that mission.
Are weapon mods shared between Horde classes?
Yes. Mods attach to the weapon, not the class. Upgrades on a Lancer carry over if another class equips that same weapon.
What is the fastest way to earn Weapon Parts in the beta?
Complete Secondary Objectives, claim Weapon Part Stockpiles from COG Resupplies, and always finish with a successful Raven extraction on Golden Quarter.
Does mod progress carry to launch?
Class level and Player Level from the August beta reset at launch. Use beta to learn the mod economy; expect to re-unlock tiers after October 6.
