Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Classes Guide

Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic — kits, passives, and squad comps for Golden Quarter.

Horde Siege Classes

Horde Siege in Gears of War: E-Day is built around four launch classesAssault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic — each with a unique starting loadout, combat passive, and Tactical Gear ability on cooldown. Before every mission you lock a class; skins stay cosmetic, so you can look like Marcus while playing Medic. This page is the dedicated class hub: what each kit does, how to build squads of four, how class XP to level 30 unlocks Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods, and what the August Open Beta actually lets you practice on Golden Quarter.

Pair this with the full Horde Siege systems guide for R.I.G. objectives and Invasion Events, How to Extract for Raven and Crush the Bug grind, class builds for loadout theory, and Active Reload for the timing that wins mid-range duels. Confirm beta windows on the Open Beta schedule.

Why classes matter in twelve-player PvE

Unlike Versus 4v4, Horde Siege does not use fair-start identical loadouts. Your class decides opening weapons, the cooldown tool you drop under pressure, and which Armor Mods feel natural later. Three squads of four share one map, so a missing Medic across all twelve players hurts every Raven extract — not just your fireteam.

At launch each class tracks 30 levels. Key milestones raise base health and damage and unlock weapons, equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods. Weapon Parts from missions must extract to bank mods — dying before the Raven wastes the haul. Beta caps class progress around level 10; treat Early Access and General Open Beta as kit literacy camps, not permanent rank farms. Progress does carry between the August 6–10 and August 13–17 weekends on the same account, then resets at October 6 launch while challenge cosmetics stay — details on Open Beta rewards.

Assault — Sonic Disruptor

Assault is the flexible mid-range backbone. Deploy the Sonic Disruptor to stun incoming waves — especially valuable on Defend and Horde R.I.G. phases when Locust flood a node. The class also receives a damage boost while in cover, rewarding classic Gears peek-shoot discipline rather than endless slides.

Play Assault when you:

  • Prefer Lancer-style mid fights over shotgun rushes
  • Call first contact and stabilize new Secure zones
  • Want a Disruptor panic button for Invasion Event trash packs

Practice Disruptor placement before the swarm arrives — dropping it after you are already downed wastes the cooldown. Pair with Movement & Cover slide-to-cover chains so the cover damage passive stays online.

Breacher — Adrenaline Injector

Breacher is the close-range push specialist. The Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces damage for short windows so you can delete priority targets or clutch a contested Supply Cache. Passives improve status and melee resistance, which matters when Feral variants close distance during E-Hole-style pressure.

Play Breacher when you:

  • Enjoy Gnasher and shotgun lanes on Golden Quarter interiors
  • Volunteer for Secure entries and High Value Target secondaries
  • Accept that overextends without Medic backup fail missions

Shell-by-shell reload interrupts keep you lethal between peeks — see Active Reload for weapon-specific perfect bonuses. Do not Injector into empty lanes; save it for Corpser/Brumak adds or R.I.G. collapse moments.

Marksman — Pulse Drone

Marksman owns long sightlines with precision kits and a Pulse Drone that tags Locust for the whole squad. Critical hits deal improved damage, so Longshot-minded players and Invasion Event focus fire naturally land here.

Play Marksman when you:

  • Prefer rooftops and street sightlines over room clearing
  • Call boss weak points during Invasion Events
  • Tag priority targets so Assault and Breacher burn less ammo hunting

Drone early when a secondary High Value Target spawns — the whole squad benefits from tags, not just your kill feed. On dense Defend phases, rotate closer; Marksman dies first when caught reloading in the open without cover.

Medic — Stim Vaporizer

Medic is the mid-range revive specialist. The Stim Vaporizer heals and can revive Gears in range — including downed players from other squads — which is unique value on twelve-player maps. Faster health regen keeps Medics rotating between lanes instead of camping one wall forever.

Play Medic when you:

  • Enjoy clutch saves and COG tag recovery routes
  • Grind the 10 revives emblem challenge during Open Beta
  • Want to stabilize random matchmaking where Breachers overextend

Learn How to Extract tag rules: downed players drop COG tags that must reach a Supply Cache (or get instant-revived by another squad picking them up). Stim Vaporizer does not replace tag logistics — it buys time.

Suggested squad compositions

There is no forced one-of-each rule — four Breachers is allowed — but balanced comps clear Infantry+ extracts faster for Crush the Bug:

CompRolesBest for
Standard1 Assault / 1 Breacher / 1 Marksman / 1 MedicMost Blitz and Siege missions
Hold line2 Assault / 1 Marksman / 1 MedicDefend and Horde playlists
Push heavy2 Breacher / 1 Assault / 1 MedicSecure-heavy maps, risky secondaries
Event focus1 Assault / 1 Breacher / 2 MarksmanInvasion Event practice nights

If matchmaking fills three Assaults and zero Medics, one player should soft-swap to Medic before wave one — Raven extracts fail when nobody recovers tags.

Leveling, mods, and cross-class weapons

Class XP comes from completed missions. Armor Mods tweak health, ammo, swap speed, or execution bonuses. Tactical Gear Mods cut cooldowns or add Disruptor/Drone/Injector/Stim effects. Weapon Mods — including wild options like a Gnasher bayonet — spend Weapon Parts earned and extracted in Horde Siege. Weapon customization is shared across classes: mod a Prototype Lancer on Assault and those mods apply when another class equips it.

Beta class cap near 10 still unlocks enough gear to learn identity. Full 30 tracks open at launch with Season 1 Emergence — see progression system and seasons roadmap.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers for Emergence Day prep and launch week.

What are the four Horde Siege classes in Gears of War: E-Day?

Assault (Sonic Disruptor, cover damage boost), Breacher (Adrenaline Injector, melee/status resistance), Marksman (Pulse Drone, critical damage), and Medic (Stim Vaporizer, faster regen, cross-squad revives).

Can I mix any character skin with any class?

Yes. Classes are mechanical kits independent of cosmetics — pick any skin and still run Assault, Breacher, Marksman, or Medic.

Do I need one of each class in a squad of four?

No. Any mix is allowed, including four of one class. Balanced comps with a Medic still extract more reliably on Infantry+ for Crush the Bug.

How far do classes level in the Open Beta?

Beta caps class progression around level 10. Launch opens full tracks to level 30. Progress carries between August beta weekends but resets at the October 6 launch.

Can Medics revive players from other squads?

Yes. Stim Vaporizer can heal and revive Gears in range, including downed soldiers from other Horde Siege squads — unique value on twelve-player maps.
