Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta Ends August 17
Last hours of General Open Beta — finish extracts, bank cosmetics, then wait for October 6.
Gears of War: E-Day General Open Beta closes August 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. After that timestamp the Gears Beta client stops taking new Horde Siege and Versus sessions. This page is the last-day briefing: exact shutdown math, which cosmetics survive into the October 6 launch, what resets, and how to spend the remaining hours if you still need Player Level 20 Mags or eight Infantry+ Raven extracts.

When the servers actually stop
The Coalition published the General Open Beta window as August 13 at 12:00 PM PT through August 17 at 10:00 AM PT. That is a Monday morning Pacific cutoff, not a vague “end of weekend.” If you play in Europe or Asia, the close lands late afternoon or evening on August 17 local time — do not assume you have a full Monday night.
A match that is already in progress when the window ends can still fail if the session cannot complete extract or Versus score. Start new Horde Blitz runs only if you can finish the Raven pad with margin. Versus Social games are shorter; use them for leftover headshots and Prototype Lancer chainsaw executions, not for a last-minute Player Level 20 push if you are still in the teens.
Early Access already closed August 10 at 10:00 AM PT. Progress from that weekend already carried into this open weekend on the same account. There is no third public beta weekend on the official FAQ.
What carries to October 6 — and what does not
Official gearsofwar.com language is specific. Treat it as the contract:
Carries to launch if unlocked during either August window
- Epic Blast Damage Mags character skin (Player Level 20)
- Crush the Bug weapon skin set (eight Horde Siege extracts on Infantry or higher)
- Crush the Bug Banner (25 headshots)
- Crush the Bug Emblem (10 revives)
- Crush the Bug Icon (5 Prototype Lancer chainsaw executions)
- Open Beta Medal and First in the Fight Title (launch the multiplayer beta)
Resets at launch
- Class level (beta cap around 10)
- Player Level (beta cap around 50)
- Other medal progress that is not one of the listed challenge rewards
Already carried between the two August weekends: challenge counters, unlocked cosmetics, class XP, and Player Level on the same Microsoft or Steam-linked account. You do not need eight extracts in a single weekend — you need eight total before the August 17 close.

Last-hour priority list
If you only have one session left, ignore vanity and chase the two long counters first.
- Confirm difficulty — Crush the Bug extracts need Infantry or higher. A casual lobby does not count. Check the badge before wave one.
- Queue Horde Blitz — 15–20 minute missions produce more extracts per hour than 50–60 minute Horde playlists. Keep a Medic for COG-tag recoveries on the pad.
- Bank Weapon Parts — Parts only stick if someone boards the Raven. Do not wipe on a late Invasion Event.
- Player Level 20 — Horde objectives plus a completed extract are still the densest XP. Versus on Market or Outpost is a filler, not a replacement, if you are far from 20.
- Quick cosmetics — Banner, emblem, and icon can finish in mixed play. Chainsaw executions need the Prototype Lancer equipped; revives want Horde downs; headshots work in either mode.
- Launch the client once — Medal and Title only need participation. If a friend never opened Gears Beta, get them in before 10:00 AM PT even if they cannot grind.

After August 17 — the gap to launch
When the beta client goes dark you return to waiting for October 6, 2026 global launch on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass day one. Premium and Collector editions still unlock the full game up to five days early on October 1 — that is not another beta build.
Use the gap to:
- Compare SKUs on editions and pre-order if you have not bought yet
- Read Beta vs Launch so you do not expect Golden Quarter-only playlists in October
- Bookmark Seasons roadmap for Season 1: Emergence
- Keep beta known issues notes for PC SSD, driver floors, and UDP 3074 — those lessons transfer to launch troubleshooting
Campaign, four-player online co-op, console split-screen, six Versus maps, and three Horde maps are launch content, not something you missed this weekend. See Campaign Co-op and Kalona maps.
Feedback and leftover bugs
The official FAQ still asks players to ticket new issues at aka.ms/gearscontactsupport with screenshots. Do not ticket items already listed on beta known issues or named codes on beta error codes. Weekend 2 already moved drone-snub to UDP 3074, buffed Prototype Lancer base damage, and tightened Horde hit detection — if you are still on an unpatched device, update Gears Beta before you write a report.
