Gears of War: E-Day Characters & Enemies

Bravo Squad heroes, Emergence Day antagonists, and who to play in campaign co-op.

Characters Hub

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set in Kalona on Emergence Day — the hour Locust forces flood the surface and the COG learns what war really costs. The story centers on Bravo Squad, a fireteam you control in campaign solo or with up to four players online. This Characters hub collects every roster and antagonist page on the wiki so you can learn who Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago were before they became legends, meet newcomers Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes, and study Locust plus Feral variants before closing your first E-Hole.

Navigation uses Characters instead of a generic Players label because E-Day is narrative-forward: picking a squad member changes banter, perspective, and co-op responsibility even when loadouts overlap. Pair character knowledge with Campaign Co-op mechanics and Getting Started for platform access timing.

Bravo Squad — playable heroes

Four Gears are playable from the opening chapter:

  • Marcus Fenix — pragmatic soldier-in-training whose later leadership is foreshadowed in Kalona street fighting.
  • Dom Santiago — Marcus’s closest ally, aggressive close-range instincts, emotional anchor of the squad.
  • Mags Carter — precision-focused Gear who fits Marksman-minded players and Longshot priorities.
  • Lucas Reyes — newer to previews but positioned as a versatile squad member for flexible co-op roles.

The dedicated Bravo Squad roster page breaks down personalities, suggested co-op roles, and weapon affinities tied to the tier list. Marcus and Dom goes deeper on the franchise’s core friendship without spoiling unreleased story beats.

Never-fight-alone solo play

Solo campaign uses directed AI squadmates so empty co-op slots still feel like Bravo Squad. AI behavior is not identical to human partners — read Campaign Co-op for how to issue implicit pressure by advancing cover lines yourself. Character choice still matters for voice lines and certain perspective shots, not for locking weapons permanently.

Console players can add 2-player split-screen locally; online co-op supports four players. Assign roles early: one player on E-Hole callouts, one on precision, two on entry and crowd control using tips from How to Close E-Holes.

Locust and Feral enemies

Antagonists span standard Locust horde units and Feral variants — faster, more aggressive forms previewed in Kalona breaches. Understanding variant tells helps every mode, not just campaign. The Enemies: Locust & Feral page catalogs behaviors, priority targeting for Marksman players, and synergy with Gut Puncher timed detonations from the Weapons Overview.

Horde Siege multi-squad PvE reuses many of the same enemy types under higher wave pressure. Cross-train with Horde Siege class builds so Medic and Breacher players know which variants to call first.

Characters vs Horde Siege classes

Campaign characters are not the same as Horde Siege classes (Assault, Marksman, Medic, Breacher). Lore fans may theme parties — Marcus as Assault, Mags as Marksman — but mechanics remain class-bound in Siege. Keep the distinction clear when reading Horde Siege guides.

Bravo Squad includes Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, Mags Carter, and Lucas Reyes — all playable from the opening campaign chapter in solo or co-op.

Can I play as Marcus Fenix in co-op?

Yes. Up to four players can join online co-op, each choosing a Bravo Squad member. Console also supports two-player split-screen.

What are Feral Locust variants?

Feral variants are faster, more aggressive Locust forms shown in Kalona previews. They are priority targets for Marksmen and Breachers during E-Hole waves.
